Tiger Salamander Larva

Larva of the tiger salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum) observed in Livingston County, Michigan. Tiger salamanders spend several months as gilled larvae before metamorphosing into the terrestrial adult. Tiger salamander larvae are voracious predators, eating invertebrates, other amphibian larvae, and even cannibalizing smaller tiger salamanders.
